Map of the Penedes Priorat Bike Tour
Starting in the Mediterranean Sea the route continues trough the famous Penedes, the cava and wine area. Next is the famous climb to Montserrat, which will be difficult for anyone to forget. In the Pyrenees surrounding by dramatic gradients the scenery changes again, and again crossing the volcanic area of La Garrotxa.
Penedès is a wine-producing region having a Spanish Denominació d'Origen. The area is framed by Montserrat, Garraf and Prades. Considered one of the country's best wine-producing regions after La Rioja, it is also one of the most ancient viticulture areas in Europe. Better known for its Cava production, a sparkling wine, by companies like Freixenet.

Sant Sadurní d'Anoia and Freixenet A town known for its high concentration of cava producing companies. There are over 80 of these in the town The exterior architecture of some of them is of great beauty and they are all characterized by the underground landscape they make up, kilometer on kilometer of cellars, lined with bottles resting there in the silent darkness.

Montserrat is a massif that towers over the right bank of the Llobregat River. The natural beauty surrounding the monastery is simply breathtaking. Over the years, the monastery of Montserrat has always played a very important role in the cultural life of Catalonia. The community of Montserrat today is made up of some 80 monks. As at all Benedictine monasteries, the monks of Montserrat follow the Rule of Saint Benedict, devoting their lives to prayer, welcoming pilgrims and visitors, and work.

To visit Cardona is to feel history in the making: you can walk around a medieval town, contemplate the grandeur of roman and gothic temples. It is to experience finding yourself inside a salt mountain that is unique throughout the world and to have a good time at festivals, traditional fairs and cultural activities held throughout the year and enjoy the local trade gastronomy and products sold in its historic centre.

Ripoll located by the Pyrenees food hills at the confluence of the Ter and Freser rivers, the town was built around the Benedictine monastery of Santa María de Ripoll. Founded in the 9th century this Romanesque monastery is considered to be one of the most important monastic centers in medieval Catalonia, especially because of their repopulating efforts.

La Garrotxa is an area of exceptional beauty containing 40 volcanic cones. It is a protected area including the Natural Park of the Volcanic Area. A land rich in traditions and history, with some Romanesque gems and medieval villages. It is also a land with plenty of traditional dishes, which have been renovated by means of the most creative modern cuisine.

Girona has all the charm of a large city but without the crowds; The old town is one of the most evocative historical centers in Catalonia. The Carolingian wall, an exceptionally well conserved Jewish quarter, and the grandeur of the Cathedral's Gothic nave, the widest in the world.
